Determining the needs of an athlete (Yes you are an athlete!) in their personalised program starts with evaluating Flexibility, Mobility, Strength Balance, Work:Rest and Skills and Motor Control. |
Flexibility
Passive range of motion in a joint, weather this is assisted by gravity or an external load (weight). This full body assessment will test every joint to see if its limited by tight tissue or is there an anatomical restriction.
Mobility
This is active range of motion and requires flexibility and strength. To provide range of motion and stability in the joint. This can sometime mean developing new ranges of motion and motor control for longevity.
Passive range of motion in a joint, weather this is assisted by gravity or an external load (weight). This full body assessment will test every joint to see if its limited by tight tissue or is there an anatomical restriction.
Mobility
This is active range of motion and requires flexibility and strength. To provide range of motion and stability in the joint. This can sometime mean developing new ranges of motion and motor control for longevity.
Strength Balance
How well can the joint transmit and absorb forces placed upon them. Its common to have one side or arm or leg stronger than the other. Without even forces and strength balance the load will need to be compensated somewhere. This imbalance can lead to increased risk of injury.
Work:Rest
Stress be it from work, at home or from the volume of work done during exercise needs to be balanced with the proper volume of recovery. If you are not allowing your body time to recover with a combination of quality of sleep, good nutrition and managing stress. Recovery is the rebuilding process for the body.
Skill and Motor Control
This only comes when you have addressed any issues from full Flexibility and strength in range of movement, balanced strength across all joints, with a balance of absolute strength and strength stamina, and appropriate volume of training and rest and recovery.
Skill is earned, Not given.
